Today, being St. Paddy's Day, I reserved myself to have some fun and not worry so much about all the usuals; finances, finding work, where I'll end up, not to mention if I have to leave Adam.
Real fun. Hmmm, what is that exactly?
Play a good video game Travian, drink a good pint of Guinness, have a little Irish Whiskey, reminisce about Ireland, have some Corned Beef and Cabbage at The Black Rose Pub, review my Gaelic, tend the Garden, and watch Angela's Ashes.
Well, I started off the day checking my email for job responses. Still found myself at some job sights. Then paid some bills online and by phone, since I waited too long to mail them. Cringed at the credit card bill I can't pay much of.
Then I sent my resume out a few places ... and realized, "This is not fun, not the fun I should have on a holiday with no job". Not the fun I can be having because I'm not working!
So I promptly did my leadership duties on Travian, but not until much later in the day than I would have thought, since I paid my bills first. And after 1 pm, I grabbed me a pint.
I learned a new Gaelic verb, which is still quite hard for me because I need to study conjugation more. The word of the day is siúl [shoo-uh-l], to walk.
We got a new single grain whiskey yesterday, Greenore. The overall taste is smooth, delicate, and lightly flowery but only as a background hint. The peat finish which threw me off a bit, was surprisingly not too assaultive for me. I don't usually like heavy peat or smoke in my whiskey, which is why I tread carefully around Scotch. I won't probably have any whiskey today, until the evening at least, because I still want to go to the pub later.
I'm hoping Adam gets a hold of me for a late lunch so we can get some corned beef and cabbage at the pub. If his meeting runs too long he'll be too hungry and probably stop somewhere, and if that's the case we'll go for dinner.
I've also tended the garden. It's a little hard watering the transplanted onions with the chicken tractor in the way. A chicken tractor is a chicken coop that is made so that it can be easily moved and alows the chickens to poop on the ground introducing ferilizer. Supposidly this is the best kind of fertalizer. I guess we'll see!
Adam built the chicken coop out of an old futon and a desk; and of course chicken wire. It wasn't until after it was built we learned that we had what chicken rearing people call a "chicken tractor". We plan to have two chickens but it's still a little early to find adolescent or just barely full grown chickens. We want eggs of course! Right now we can only get pullets/chicks. And last year I had babies for two days because we were bringing them to the ranch, and oh my, was that a chore. I don't know if I'd be up for it again, it's demanding raising chicks.
We noticed last year that the onions are the only thing the critters, such as voles, don't touch. So this year, we transplanted all the onions to the perimeter to hopefully keep them out the main part of the garden. Plus, we had no idea how many onions we had growing. It's quite a bit when you space them all out. They need a lot of water when they get transplanted since many lose most of their roots, so I made sure to water them before the hottest part of the day.One row of onions is white, and the other is red. You can't tell the red onions until they get much bigger, they just look like the white ones and have more bite when you eat them. We love onions, and it's a good thing too - because we are about to have a lot of them.
We also planted multiple colors of beets, short sweet carrots, and watermelon radishes.
It doesn't look like much now, but we'll have it in full swing in no time. These views are only half the garden. The rest is mostly dirt. And well, one corner of assorted plants like herbs and an artichoke plant.
Ben's been living with us for a couple of months and it's great. We all get along nicely and have a lot in common so we do a lot with each other.
Well, Adam didn't make it home for the Pub this afternoon, so I guess we'll go tonight for dinner. It should be fun, hopefully not too crowded.
I'm off to watch Angela's Ashes now. I should buy the book soon, ah, in the middle of reading too many at the moment. I've got a Terry Pratchet, 2 Ayn Rand books, and a novel Adam's mom gave me. So I'm good for a while.
